This outdoor design project is located in Salento, Puglia, and was developed for a single-story villa inspired by the traditional Masseria architecture of Southern Italy. The design combines the strong architectural character of the existing tuff stone residence with a contemporary Mediterranean landscape approach.
The outdoor spaces are organized around a series of terraces, pathways, planted areas, and intimate gathering spaces that extend the living experience beyond the house. Natural tuff stone, warm timber elements, gravel, and locally inspired planting create a cohesive material palette that reflects the character of the Puglian landscape.
A key aspect of the design is the contrast between the reddish local soil and the lighter tones of the gravel and stone paving. This natural contrast gives the landscape a distinctive identity while allowing the planting and architectural elements to stand out.
Olive trees, lavender, Mediterranean shrubs, bougainvillea, and cypress trees are integrated throughout the site, creating a landscape that feels both authentic to its setting and carefully composed. Pergola-covered dining areas, outdoor kitchens, seating spaces, and a swimming pool provide a variety of settings for relaxation and social activities.
The result is a contemporary Mediterranean outdoor environment that respects the traditional character of the Masseria while creating a refined and functional landscape for modern living.
